Hoops for Diabetes

Hoops for Diabetes

MISSION STATEMENT

Horace Neysmith, motivated by his own battle with Type 2 Diabetes, established the UnderClassman All American Game in 2016. This initiative is dedicated to raising awareness and educating individuals about the crucial role of diet and exercise in both preventing and effectively managing diabetes.

In addition to its primary focus on diabetes prevention and management, the UCAAG has also incorporated Mental Wellness and Financial Literacy into its program. This expansion is a result of the advent of Name, Image & Likeness (NIL) and the participation of elite-level players in the game.

Hoops for Diabetes: Underclassman All-American Game (UCAAG)

The Underclassman All-American Game (UCAAG) stands out as a premier event in the elite basketball circuit, showcasing the exceptional talents of some of the nation’s top freshmen and sophomores.

This event goes beyond the excitement of basketball, serving a greater purpose of raising awareness about diabetes and promoting the importance of healthy dietary habits, especially for student-athletes. The alarming projections by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) underline the critical need to address this issue, and the UCAAG is dedicated to contributing positively to this cause.

Proceeds from the event are donated to the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and the ADA, organizations leading the charge in diabetes research and advocacy.

Event Highlights

The UCAAG is known for its thorough preparation, national scope, and comprehensive experience. Key features include:

  • Practice & Media Session: Showcasing athletes’ skills and interaction with media.
  • Beyond the Bench Lunch & Learn: Discussions focusing on education, health, and success beyond sports.
  • Concept Competition: Encouraging creativity and teamwork among players.
  • Underclassman All-American Game Day: The culmination of the event, featuring thrilling games that highlight top-tier talent.
